Jury Trials: Voted Down Opposition Scrutiny

290 Labour MPs voted against an opposition day motion on jury trials, shutting down debate on the government's plans to limit the right to trial by jury.

Opposition to jury trial reform came from every party — Conservatives, Reform, Plaid, Lib Dems, independents, and even Labour's own backbenchers and peers like Baroness Helena Kennedy. Labour voted to block scrutiny regardless.

Parliament denied the chance to properly scrutinise plans to remove a fundamental legal right.
